Taka-jinja Shrine
Taka-jinja Shrine has been a place of worship for people living in Taga-go since ancient times.
Some of the oldest literature of the Kamakura period(1185-1333) states that Sarugaku performances(predecessor to Noh) was staged at this shrine when the shrine was remodeled, it’s one of the earliest records of Sarugaku in Japan. The sanctuary(Cultural Property of Kyoto Prefecture) was built in 1604 and still conveys the gorgeous architecture of the Momoyama period. The sacred forest surrounding the shrine is also one of the 100 most scenic landscapes of Kyoto prefecture.
Access: About 1.5 km from JR Yamashiro-Taga Station, about 20 minutes on foot.
