Monument to Moroe Tachibana
Moroe Tachibana (684-757) was a key figure in politics during the Nara period who was active in Ide, and built Ide-ji Temple.
He was born in 684, and is said to have invited the 45th Emperor Shomu to the Tamai-no-Tongu(a temporary enshrinement site) of Ide in 740, and to have been made Sho-ichii Sadaijin (Minister of the Left) in 749. He was also known as a man of letters who compiled the "Manyoshu" (Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves), and he loved the land of Ide with his father, Prince Mino, and is said to have planted yamabuki (Japanese mountain roses) trees on the banks of Tamagawa River.
