Tombstone of Kinkei Nakagami
Located in the mountains to the east of the town, in the Ario district, there is a gravestone engraved with Nakagami Kinkei. Kinkei was born in what is now Kusatsu city, Shiga prefecture, and opened a practice in Kyoto as a doctor, where he was well-known in the medical community of the time as a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine. It is said that in 1813, he examined Emperor Kokaku, and was bestowed the land of Tamura Shinden, which was Imperial property, and succeeded him as village headman. He died in 1833, and his grave remains in Ario.
Access: About 5.0 km east from JR Tamamizu Station. About 60 minutes on foot.
